Paraffin wax is a mineral wax derived from petroleum. Unlike the wax used for depilatory procedures, which is viscous and sticky to bond to hair and skin. Paraffin wax is a soft wax with a low melting point, which means that it melts at a temperature cool enough to safely immerse your skin. Paraffin wax has a long history of treating a variety of physical conditions. In fact, it was used in massage therapy as far back as the Roman Empire, and, in more recent years, it’s become a popular treatment for people with sports-related injuries. Today, these treatments are good for more than just softening and smoothing the skin. Benefits A paraffin treatment soothes chronic joint pain and relaxes stiff muscles, and improves blood flow to the treated area. It increases range of motion for people with arthritis, bursitis and other chronic conditions that cause pain and stiffness. Paraffin treatments also smooth and soften dry, chapped, rough and scaly skin. It can be helpful for chronic skin disorders such as eczema and psoriasis. Paraffin therapy is quite commonly used to aid in the treatment of the following conditions:

  • Arthritis
  • Bursitis
  • Circulatory Disorders
  • Eczema
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Inflammation
  • Muscle Spasms
  • Overworked/Fatigued Muscles
  • Scar Tissue
  • Stiff Joints
  • Tendonitis
  • Tennis Elbow
  • Tired, overworked hands and/or feet

How It Works? Paraffin wax has a very high heat capacity, meaning it is able to absorb and retain a great amount of heat. When applied to an area of the body (i.e. hands, feet, face, back or spot treatment) the melting paraffin quickly changes into a solid. The heat that is transferred is referred to as the “heat of fusion”. After paraffin is applied, the warmth from the paraffin increases the blood supply to the area being treated by drawing moisture from the underlying layer of the skin. The moisture surfaces and mixes with the applied moisturizer and the fluids are unable to evaporate because of the paraffin layer. The moisture is then infused back into the skin resulting in a deep penetrating heat and well-hydrated/nourished skin, allowing the deep -penetrating heat to soothe achy muscles and joints.
